What happens at my first hypnotherapy session?
When you first meet Hilary she will take some time to talk to you about the changes you wish to make. It helps if you are clear in your mind about exactly what you want and if you are 100% committed to making changes happen. Hilary is then able to construct meaningful and relevant suggestions to be given during hypnosis.
One way of clarifying the positive changes you desire is to write down the “old” ways of thinking, feeling or acting on one side of a page. On the other side write the “new” ways – the way that you want to think, feel and act.
Hilary will also need to get relevant medical and historical information from you.
At your first session, you will have the opportunity to ask any questions or raise concerns. Hilary will explain the process to you and make sure you are comfortable, committed and willing to be hypnotised.
You will be hypnotised gently and respectfully. It’s nothing like hypnotism that you may have seen on TV or on stage.
The vast majority of clients find that being hypnotised is a wonderfully soothing and relaxing experience, even without the benefit of the positive suggestions. One way of describing hypnotherapy is “a massage for the mind!”
At the end you will be gradually reoriented to full alertness and you can expect to feel refreshed and marvellously good.
Being hypnotised is a learning experience. Generally people find that after they have learnt how to go into trance the first time, on subsequent occasions they are able to go into trance easier, quicker and deeper.
